Naturally

It’s easy these days to want to spend more time outside. Despite the mud and muck the bright colors of new growth call to our beings. But here’s the thing. There are literal physical changes that happen in our bodies in the wild. Warning, many of these things are talked about incessantly, but it turns out there’s a reason.

Vitamin D is an easy one. Being in the sunshine not only feels great, but helps us produce an important vitamin that a lot, trust me, a lot of people have deficits in when they’re struggling with mental health issues. Just use the sunscreens.

Breathing is also important. It is easier to take deep breaths in less polluted environments outside, but it’s also easier when we are experiencing less stress. Seeing greenery, being in a place that is beautiful makes it much easier to pay attention to what is happening in the here and now, which also reduces stress.

Did you know we can literally get antioxidants from bare feet on grass?! Listen, I know it’s hard to believe but the Washington Post wrote a whole live article on it. I think we have to start to change how we think about what is healthy for our bodies and lives.
